TV Presenter, Author, Psycotherapist Dream Analyser
Melinda Messenger is one of the UK’s most loved celebrities and television presenters, but many people don’t know that she has spent the past five year pursuing a childhood dream of training to be a psychotherapist. She has also done a course at Oxford University on Mindfulness and works as a private psychotherapist at the Centre for Psychotherapy in London. She has experienced huge benefits herself from having had nine years of weekly psychotherapy and now wants to help others with the skills she has learnt.
Melinda can regularly be seen on our screens, taking part in discussions and debates and guesting on programmes including Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Loose Women on ITV1, The Jeremy Vine Show on Channel 5 and Talk Radio and BBC Radio 2 . She was also chosen, with a handful of other female celebrities, to go and live on a Greek Island to try and find love in ITV1’s acclaimed series, My Shirley Valentine Summer in 2018 and in the same year took part in Celebrity First Dates for Stand Up to Cancer on Channel 4.
Putting her property renovation and development skills to good use, (she has bought and renovated 13 houses in the UK) she also presented eight series of Cowboy Builders and Cowboy Traders on Channel 5, making them the highest rated shows on the channel. She also hosted the National Lottery on BBC1 as well as the Health Lottery on every week on Five and although she finished doing all these things about five years ago, a lot of people still remember her doing them fondly.
In 2014, Melinda took part in The Jump on prime time Channel 4. Unfortunately she sustained a head concussion and couldn’t complete the series but loved skiing so much she has carried on very successfully. She was also a contestant on the fourth series of Dancing on Ice, which began in January 2009 but was voted out in Week 7 after losing a surprise skate-off against Jessica Taylor. She had survived three previous skate-offs.
Rising to fame in 1997, Melinda’s potential was spotted after modelling for an ad campaign for a windows company in Swindon. Her career took off and sky rocketed. The Sun newspaper fell in love with her and hailed her as the “Girl of the Millenium” and at the time, she got more column inches that Princess Diana! Sales of any magazine or newspaper she appeared in went through the roof and still do!
Her TV career began when she was given her own show on Channel 5 called Melinda’s Big Night In – a chat show where she interviewed celebrities weekly for a year. Other TV credits at that time included Melinda Goes to Hollywood on ITV (10 million viewers each episode), Wish You Were Here? and Baby Baby on ITV, To Buy or Not To Buy on BBC1, five series of Fort Boyard on Five and Beat the Crusher and Loose Lips on Sky One, plus many more too numerous to mention.
During her modelling career, she fronted big campaigns for British Home Stores, La Senza, Ultimo and Vivenne Westwood and did her own range for Littlewoods. Melinda is always in great demand by well known brands to spearhead their campaigns guaranteeing them fabulous profile. Most recently she has fronted a TV advert for British Gas and voiced a series of adverts for Argos. She is also a popular awards host, public speaker, social influencer and corporate presenter.
She lives in the Berkshire countryside with her three grown up children and two dogs.
