Jo’s journey into coaching began after a life-changing event in 2011 that prompted her to reassess everything. Having worked as a BBC journalist and run a successful marketing consultancy while raising three daughters, Jo knows firsthand the pressures of juggling career and life. Her own personal growth has shaped her unique coaching style, which combines empathy, sharp insight, and a no-nonsense approach to getting to the heart of any issue.

Now that her children and stepchildren are older, she has decided to say yes more often, allowing her to share her expertise and insights with as many people as possible. Jo is a certified coach with the Coaching Academy, holding a diploma in Personal Performance Coaching and qualifications as an NLP Practitioner. She is also trained in 12-step change methodologies, Lencioni’s 5 Dysfunctions of a Team, basic CBT, and trauma relief work.

Jo Emerson, a dedicated supporter of St. Mungo’s, recently took her commitment to the next level by joining the charity’s outreach team for an early morning shift. Understanding the importance of first-hand experience, Jo invited Heartstopper actor and neurodiversity advocate Bradley Riches to accompany her, lending his voice and presence to the cause.
Both Jo and Bradley were immediately struck by the harsh realities they witnessed on the streets. From the vulnerability of those without shelter to the immense challenges faced by outreach workers, the experience was eye-opening and deeply moving. FOR four decades, Jo Emerson adored her dad Chris.
They were like chalk and cheese, but she knew he loved her deeply.
However, her world was blown apart when her stepmother made a shocking slip of the tongue — and hinted he wasn’t Jo’s biological father.
“I felt like the rug had been pulled from under me,” says Jo, 52, from Bath.
“Only four people in the world — my parents and their second spouses — knew that I’d been conceived using donor sperm from a clinic in London in October 1971.
“Not even my grandparents had an inkling. It had been a secret for 40 years — and if Pat hadn’t let it slip, I might never have known the truth.
